Why Nashville?

When I joined Dollar General I started in Nashville. We then moved to Atlanta and Richmond and now I am back to join the team at the corporate office. Also, who doesn’t love Nashville!

Is your current work connected to the vision of achieving “One Day” in Nashville? If so, how? If not, how did you get into your current line of work?

The mission of Dollar General is “Serving Others”. I truly believe that we, as a company, help serve the communities that we support in the “One Day” mission. Not only are we there for them to purchase items but we also provide jobs for our students and their families. Every time, I fill a Store Manager role, I think to myself “How wonderful would this be for my students if their mom, dad, sister, cousin, etc. just got a salaried job!”

What are 3 things you learned in the Corps that you’d like to share with incoming corps members?

  • Seek to understand before being understood.
  • Embrace not knowing the right answer and ask your support team for help
  • Build relationships within TFA

One thing to do before leaving the Corps?

Search for jobs that fulfill your desire and passion to continue the TFA mission. If you would have told me I would end up in HR, I never would have believed you! That being said, I had the talent and just not the skills. Dollar General tapped into my skillset and taught me to be an HR professional. Don’t be afraid to find your passion and then figure out the path to get there.
